Musharraf quits as chief of army staff in Pakistan

Thursday, November 29, 2007

President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan gave up his uniform in a ceremony yesterday in Rawalpindi. He handed power over to General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani at the headquarters of the Pakistani Army, after being the leader of the army for nine years.

In his final address as leader of the army, he said that the army was the saviour of Pakistan and that the army was his life. He also expressed his pride in being the leader of what he called a “great force.”

Musharraf had been under a lot of pressure to quit as army chief, since the country was put into the spotlight as a result of a state of emergency being declared. He is expected to be sworn in as the civilian president of Pakistan on Thursday.

Both the opposition leader, Benazir Bhutto, and the US secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice, welcomed the change of duties. However, Bhutto indicated her party may not be prepared to accept Musharraf in his new non-military leadership role. Condoleezza Rice requested the state of emergency be lifted before the planned elections, which are due to take place in January.

Musharraf said General Kayani was “an excellent soldier” and that “the armed forces under his command will achieve great heights.”

General Kayani was named as the successor to Musharraf in October, before the state of emergency was declared in early November.

Forex Trading is simple, but certainly not easy. It was once famously quoted by the CEO of a world-renowned broker that, if more than 20% of the Forex participants are making profit on a particular trading day, he would be pleasantly surprised.

Now, what kind of figure does 20% reflects to the rest of the Forex Traders? Over 80% of our fellow participants in FX Trading is not making any profits overall day after day.

While Forex Trading is relatively easy to grasp, many have encounter extreme difficulty in executing it when it comes to Trading their Live accounts practically? Some experts may have famously coined the phrase FX Trading is 70% Psychology , others have claimed that a completely mechanical Forex Trading Strategy is the only way to banking pips, the rest would have argued that years of experience and a pinch of intuition would certainly make a formidable Forex Trader.

At Forex Vice, we thought all 3 of these theories are correct in their own ways.

A successful Forex Trader would indeed require a winning mentality and a mind of steel one that would remained alert and composed whether on a Roller Coaster ride and smooth sail on the sea. The market is, by all means, unpredictable at best, and thus most successful Forex Trader do possess a calm and focus mind.

Additionally, could a trader flourish in a seemingly random Forex market without a reliable system in his arsenal of Forex trading strategies? Definitely not. He would know when is the best time to trade, and what conditions would normally provide him with a better edge. An edge, is all it takes to be profitable with this nasty market afterall.

But market changes , I hear you say. Of course it does. If you know anything about I-Ching, well, probably you don t, but as with human beings, and rightly so, the market is never the same. Mechanical rules and a solid mentality would do well, but if a Forex trader and his respective Trading Strategies lack a ability to adapt to change and react to the trading conditions and longer term trends he would never be profitable for long. No trading software, or Expert Advisors, in the market could consistently profit from the market in a long run. The market dynamic changes, the market participants and the minds behind the scene changes, the global sentiment changes, everything changes and any Forex trading strategy based strictly on mechanical rules would need to be review and fine-tuned every now and then. Having said that this is where your trading experience and your pinch of intuition comes in.

The advantages of an accurate gut are indisputable. George Soros, arguably the greatest trader of modern times, depends on his gut. I rely a great deal on animal instincts, he wrote in his 1995 book, Soros on Soros. When I was actively running the fund, I suffered from backache. I used the onset of acute pain as a signal that there was something wrong in my portfolio. The backache didn t tell me what was wrong you know, lower back for short positions, left shoulder for currencies but it did prompt me to look for something amiss when I might not have done so otherwise.

Three killed amongst Birmingham, England riots

Friday, August 12, 2011

A car fatally crashed into three individuals in the British city of Birmingham, England. The three men, aged 31, 30, and 21, died during a second consecutive night of violent events in Birmingham.

The incident occurred at approximately 0100 BST (0000 UTC) Wednesday morning in the Birmingham inner-city region of Winson Green. The men were attempting to protect property from nearby riots. Witness reports say that the vehicle contained as many as three passengers and drove at a speed of fifty miles per hour without stopping after the crash.

Police have since recovered a vehicle and arrested a 32-year-old male in association with the incident, on a charge of murder. According to Chief Constable Chris Sims, the details of the incident West Midlands Police have would indicate that “the car was deliberately driven”.

Tariq Jahan, the father of one of those killed, said his son, 21-year-old Haroon Jahan, was attempting to protect the area from nearby violence and unrest. Jahan said he had attempted to perform CPR at the scene of the incident. Jahan said his son was “a very good lad, a good man starting at the beginning of his life and had his whole life ahead of him. I’ve got no words to describe why he was taken and why this has happened and what’s happening to the whole of England.” Jahan said violent acts like this which killed innocent bystanders made “no sense”.

[There is] simply no excuse whatsoever for the violence, looting and destruction

A statement released from West Midlands Police says that “detectives are treating [this incident] as murder. Three men were taken to hospital where two later died from their injuries. A third man was in a critical condition but confirmed dead at around 6:30AM. West Midlands Police have launched a murder inquiry, arrested one man in connection with the incident and recovered a vehicle nearby which will be examined by forensics experts,” the force stated. Police have requested that individuals contact them if they have any information about the incident. About 200 people from the Asian community have gathered at the hospital where the victims were transported after the crash. Two of the victims were known to be brothers. All three of them were reported to be Pakistani Muslims.

The West Midlands has seen other instances of violent behavior. Thefts have taken place in the city centre of Birmingham, West Bromwich and in Wolverhampton. The charges being brought against suspects on remand for court appearances include public disorder offences, such as violent disorder and aggravated burglary. Six police officers have experienced minor injuries as a result of the violence.

According to police, a scrapyard fire which occurred in Birmingham is unrelated to recent violence. Two ambulances were attacked in two separate incidents with objects being thrown at the vehicles. Ambulance staff were left uninjured in both cases. Ambulances have appeared on thirty-five occasions in West Bromwich, Wolverhampton and various parts of Birmingham. Thirty-one individuals were given ambulance staff treatment, with nineteen receiving hospital treatment, albeit for practically minor assaults in most cases.

In Wolverhampton and West Bromwich, there have been reports of roads and streets being closed. Wolverhampton and Birmingham have experienced significant travel disruption, with buses not entering city centres last night. One vehicle in Birmingham and two in West Bromwich have been set alight amongst the violence. Various businesses have also been targeted, such as M&S and a high fidelity shop in Birmingham. A jewelry business in Wolverhampton has been robbed of ornaments, watches and money.

Yesterday, British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg condemned the violent actions of individuals, claiming there was “simply no excuse whatsoever for the violence, looting and destruction”. Below is a picture gallery of the damage caused by public disorder in Birmingham Tuesday night:

bookmark_borderEducating Yourself About No Stitch Cataract Surgery

byadmin

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology about 22 million people in the United States over the age of 40 have cataracts. About half of all people over the age of 80 have this condition that clouds the lens of the eye and progressively leads to a decrease in vision. With the only cure found in cataract surgery, learning more about cataracts and their treatment can help you to answer questions for family members.

First, it is important to realize that despite the claims of some supplement manufacturers, there is no scientific evidence that any supplements can reduce the risk of developing cataracts. There is also no treatment except for cataract surgery at this time, but the type of surgery has changed dramatically providing patients with options for very fast healing with reduced risk of complications.

No-Stitch Surgery

Now, most cataract surgery is classified as “no-stitch surgery” because the entire process is done using an extremely fine tube that is inserted into the eye. This tube contains an ultrasound instrument that creates a safe vibration in the eye that breaks up the cataract into small pieces.

The pieces of the cataract are gently suctioned out of the eye and an artificial lens put in place. When the tube is removed the eye tissue simply seals over, without the need for any type of stitches. This entire process is actually known as phacoemulsification and has an extremely high success rate with very few complications.

Local Anesthesia Only

The entire process of no-stitch cataract surgery is done under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. This anesthesia of the eye is usually done with drops, meaning no injections for those that are a bit nervous about the idea of a needle.

Patients typically do not require patching of the eye and there is minimal healing time required. Some patients, but not all, may experience mild discomfort in the eye for a day or two after the procedure. Most people do not need to drastically change their typical lifestyle during the healing process which can last up to eight weeks.

The benefits of no-stitch cataract surgery make this a good option for a wide range of different patients. You and your doctor can discuss the options, any possible risks, and any concerns that you may have before you decide if this is the right choice for your eye health.

Tents. Sometimes we don t have enough time to check on our kids the whole time that they are playing and that is also the reason why we don t see if the place where they at is safe or not. With these blocks, you could also help them develop their skills and abilities to be prepared as they go to school in the near future.

Samoan government ends state of emergency over measles outbreak

Wednesday, January 1, 2020

On Sunday, the state of emergency begun on November 15 over a measles outbreak ended in Samoa. The island nation’s cabinet unanimously voted to lift it on Saturday afternoon, and the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) announced the decision that night. NEOC reported a 95% immunization rate on December 24, and the last measles-related death during the state of emergency on December 26.

Restrictions on public gathering and travel were to be lifted, and schools to reopen. The Health Emergency Operation Center were to take over the relief efforts centralized under the National Emergency Operation Centre. The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were tasked to produce a recovery plan within two weeks for consideration by the cabinet.

As of Sunday, the Disease Surveillance Team reported a total of 5667 cases during the outbreak. Out these, 1846 persons were hospitalized and 1720 had already been discharged, while 81 had lost their lives. The December 6 National Measles Response and Recovery Appeal identified children under 5 years of age as having the highest mortality, corresponding with the relative shortfall of vaccination in the age group.

Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital returned to normal operation on Sunday, joining Faleolo District Hospital and Leulumoega District Hospital, which returned to normal on Friday. During the peak of the outbreak, Tupua Tamasese Meaole’s Acute Primary Care Clinic and Leulumoega District hospital were made measles wards, and Leulumoega District Hospital was designated to deal with patients without measles, in an effort to quarantine infected individuals. The Australian medical mission’s fifth rotation is to remain on the islands until January 4 to help facilitate the transition. On Sunday teams had already begun to disassemble the tents erected to deal with the large number of admissions.

The state of emergency was expected to end on December 15, but on December 14 it was extended by two weeks to allow the immunization campaign to continue. At the time, the prime minister called for a 100% immunization rate, and stated 92% had been reached. As of Sunday, the rate had reached 95% according to NEOC data. Aid agencies say populations with sufficiently high vaccination rates have enough herd immunity to prevent any further infections from spreading out of control, meaning an infected person is not likely to come into contact with enough unvaccinated people to cause a chain reaction.

UNICEF reported they had delivered over 105 thousand doses of vaccine to Samoa by November 22. The national vaccination campaign started on November 20. A government order made vaccination mandatory and free of charge for children between six months and 19 years of age and for women between 20 and 35, considered childbearing age. On December 5 and 6, the government of Samoa executed a planned shutdown of public services and the private sector to leave room for a nationwide door-to-door immunization drive. The government said 128 vaccination teams participated.

To curb the spread of disease, the government prohibited inter-island travel for those under 19, schools were closed, and authorities recommended residents avoid public gatherings and medical facilities unless they were in need of medical attention. Unvaccinated pregnant women were prohibited from going to their workplaces.

The outbreak was first confirmed by the government on October 16, after the Victorian Infectious Disease Reference Laboratory in Melbourne tested 7 out of 20 suspected cases positive for measles.

In 2019 in the Pacific region, outbreaks of measles were declared in parts of the Philippines first on February 6, Tonga on October 22, Fiji on November 7, and American Samoa on December 8. The D8 strain, which caused a New Zealand outbreak, has been identified in Samoa and Fiji. New Zealand serves as a travel hub for small Pacific nations. According to data from the World Health Organisation, in 2018 there were approximately 10 million cases of measles and 140 thousand related deaths worldwide.

bookmark_borderStarting A Boarding Kennel Business: Six Important Considerations

By Scott Richardson

Just because you’re an animal lover and have the space to hold dozens of animals doesn’t mean that you’ll automatically have an easy time starting a boarding kennel business. There are a lot of important things that you have to think about and consider before you can have a fully operational boarding kennel.

It’s best to research and ask around to be able to get a good grasp of the requirements, the paperwork and even the licences that you have to get to be able to put up a boarding kennel. But you’re in luck, since we’re listing down the six most important considerations to help you jumpstart this very lucrative business.

1. Check for potential customers in your area. It’s better and more practical to have a business in close proximity to where you live, so look around and check your neighbourhood if you have a huge market base for your boarding kennel. You can also ask the help of friends to hook you up with potential customers.

2. Find a good, animal-friendly location. Once you know that you have a large customer base, scout your neighbourhood for a place where you can put up your boarding kennel. It should be large enough to house cages as well as an exercise area for dogs. The location should also be far from businesses that deal with dangerous or noxious chemicals, like gas stations.

3. Research or ask around for a list of permits and licences you need. More often than not, these permits and licences need to be obtained before your boarding kennel opens for business. There are many types of council that are very strict with permits and they can turn you down for reasons such as the lack of parking spaces or even the absence of ramps for the disabled. It’s best to research about the different permits and licences you need.

4. Learn more about the different materials and equipment you need for your boarding kennel business. From concrete to PVC and from odour-eliminating materials to sanitation equipment–all these things have to be taken into consideration when building the structure and cages for your boarding kennel business. It’s wise to consult with an architect and engineer who have extensive knowledge about boarding kennels and animals.

5. Create a marketing plan to help you decide how to advertise your business. The easiest way to let people know about your business is to put up your own website once your boarding kennel is finished. Take photos of the cages, the structure, the area and list down all the features and the rates of your boarding kennel.

6. Make sure to hire competent, reliable and honest staff and workers. It’s good if your employees have a background in veterinary medicine, but it’s not a strict prerequisite. All you have to know is that your employees and workers love animals and know how to handle different types of animals properly.

A boarding kennel can be a very good business once you’ve gone through the difficult task of actually constructing one and getting the permits and licences you need. In the end, your love and care for animals will help you get through the difficulties of starting your own boarding kennel.

Website of Bill O’Reilly, FOX News commentator, hacked in retribution

Saturday, September 20, 2008

According to document-leaking website Wikileaks.org hackers bypassed security at BillOreilly.com, the official website of Fox News Channel commentator Bill O’Reilly, exposing personal information of the site’s users in a document posted on the Internet.

The one page document, which Wikileaks confirms to be authentic, shows a list of individuals and passwords of those who have accounts on O’Reilly’s website, BillOReilly.com. The list, according to the document, contains at least 205 names, e-mail addresses, billing addresses and passwords of subscribers.

“The hack was a response to the pundit’s recent scurrilous attacks over the Sarah Palin‘s email story–including on Wikileaks and other members of the press,” said Wikileaks in a statement on their website. According to the report, the security on O’Reilly’s website was “non-existent”.

“I’m not going to mention the website that posted this, but it’s one of those despicable, slimy, scummy websites. Everybody knows where this stuff is, OK, and they know the people who run the website, so why can’t they go there tonight to the guy’s house who runs it, put him in cuffs and take him down and book him?,” said O’Reilly on his show, The O’Reilly Factor, on September 18.

Wikileaks recently published documents from Palin’s hacked Yahoo.com e-mail account. The documents had shown that Palin had been conducting matters pertaining to the public or government of Alaska over her private e-mail account.

In an exclusive statement to Wikinews, Wikileaks stated that they will only publish the single page, but also claim to have several more. Wikileaks also states that they have already received “three letters” from staff members employed by O’Reilly “requesting” Wikileaks remove the document, which Wikileaks refuses to do.

“We simply cannot [remove the information]. The system, as per policy, is designed so that files can not be taken down, once up,” said Wikileaks to Wikinews.

O’Reilly and Fox News have not yet responded to inquiries.
